The City of Edmonton seeks pilot proposals for demonstrative visionary innovation projects that leverage surface level lots, park spaces, and existing infrastructure.

These projects should aim to reimagine public spaces, foster robust economic growth, enhance community well-being, cultivate a vibrant urban experience, and unlock boundless opportunities. The vision for The Quarters Downtown is that of a healthy and dynamic community that respects the unique character of existing neighbourhoods while welcoming new residents and new spaces.

We are requesting submissions that:

Showcase creative innovations to animate The Quarters
Lead to smarter civic facilities and infrastructure (e.g. smart city technology pilots)
Leverage The Quarters’ land and building assets to pilot innovations
Bring people to The Quarters in an innovative way
Showcase homegrown innovation to the public

A successful solution will:

Leverage existing infrastructure (see resources below)
Enhance The Quarters during the pilot period
Be vision-aligned to the district/neighbourhood
Consider the community and its unique value
Prioritize inclusivity, accessibility, and social cohesion

ABOUT THE QUARTERS DOWNTOWN

This City-led redevelopment began with a community visioning process in 2006. The vision for The Quarters Downtown is a healthy and dynamic community that respects the unique character of existing neighbourhoods while welcoming new residents and new spaces.

The area currently houses about 2,400 residents; however, at full development, The Quarters Downtown is expected to accommodate between 18,000 to 20,000 residents.

The area is planned around sustainable community design principles. A mix of land uses and development forms, appealing design, and green spaces are proposed to create a unique experience for residents and visitors.

Presently, The Quarters Downtown has a number of pre-development sites available for innovation and offers an eclectic mix of spaces and buildings that are ripe for innovation pilot projects.

We are seeking visionary solutions that reimagine public spaces, foster economic growth, enhance community well-being, create a vibrant urban experience, and unlock limitless opportunities. we seek ideas that prioritize accessibility, inclusivity, and social cohesion. The Quarters Downtown could be your most accessible testing opportunity.
